Brunschwig & Fils Up For Sale

"La Portugaise" is one of B & F's many iconic fabrics.  Here, it covers Billy Baldwin's Nantucket living room.
Rarely is a trip to the D and D Building complete without a visit to the exceptional fabric house, Brunschwig et Fils. With over a century of history, 22,000 fabrics, an extensive archive and exclusive relationships with their mills, some of which wove textiles for Versailles, B & F is one of the most established and recognized names in the design industry. It was a surprise to hear that B & F is $18 million in debt and last week filed for bankruptcy protection. The fabric house is for sale with an auction date set for March 3 and as of now, the most likely buyer is Kravet who has offered to purchase B & F for $6.4 million. In the past 18 months, the sales of Scalamandre, Hinson and now B & F are examples of the rapid change afoot in the design industry.
