Learn How to "Design With Antiques" At The NY Winter Antiques Show

Philip Gorrivan's new collection of fabrics for Duralee was used on the upholstery in his Salon vignette at "Designing With Antiques," part of the Winter Antiques Show.

The Magazine Antiques is currently hosting "Designing With Antiques," a three room vignette display at the Winter Antiques Show which inspires ways to decorate in a modern style concurrently mixing fine antiques from the Show.  Designers Eileen Kathryn Boyd, Philip Gorrivan and Harry Heissmann, were each invited to create a vignette. This is a great way for a younger audience to get a taste of the Show and fantastic designer interiors since the "Designing With Antiques" vignettes are bright, hip and free admission.

The juxtaposition of the antique table with Mid-Century chairs in Gorrivan's Salon melds two competing, but complementary styles in a chic and unexpected way.

Notice how the Greek Key applique boarder adds a custom touch to the sisal carpet.

I like the contrast of softness (Oushak Rug from Peter Pap) and shine (snake skin Karl Springer Table and white lacquered Frances Elkins chairs both from Liz O'Brien) in Eileen Kathryn Boyd's Dining Room.

Repeating colors makes a statement while keeping a room cohesive.  Here, Boyd brought hues from the Oushak Rug to the tabletop.  Read more about Boyd's Dining Room on her blog.

Harry Heissman's use of simple bed hangings and modern surrounding furniture gives a younger feel to the classical canopy bed from Kentshire Galleries.  Heissman shaped the hem of the valance to mimic the graceful lines of the cornice.

The Magazine Antiques will host "Designing With Antiques" at the Winter Antiques Show at the Park Avenue Armory through January 30, 2011.
