French Polynesian Chic at Le Taha'a

Over-water bungalows at Le Taha'a Island Resort and Spa in the foreground with views of Bora Bora.

At French Polynesia's Le Taha'a Island Resort and Spa, chances are you will spend more time enjoying the magnificent views of Bora Bora and the Pacific Ocean than admiring the inside inside of your private over-water bungalow.  The resorts interiors, however, are notable in their own right and keep pace with their scenic and breathtaking  surroundings.  Open air tree houses and bungalows invite the outdoors in while local materials enhance the architecture and add Polynesian charm.

Palm leaf thatched roofing and woven grass cloth walls exhibit characteristic Polynesian design.  Wood work throughout the bungalows channel the first-class accommodations of a fine ship.

The rope detailing on the closet doors and is a fine example of the subtle and unique efforts to turn regular into special throughout Le Taha'a.

Rope is used again to decorate the sink pedestals and tub.

Coal is inset in the shower walls.

Rope tied branches mark a whimsical stairway to the dining tree house.
Interior palm thatched roof above the tree house stairway.
White sailcloth is the primary fabric used throughout the Resort.  Sailcloth lends a nautical air and does not distract from the vibrant colors of the island.

Perfectly weathered teak lounge chairs stand up to the Tahitian sun.
If you are planning a trip to the South Pacific or want to break up your journey to Australia or beyond, I cannot recommend a better spot to relax and truly feel a world away.  For more information on Le Taha’a Island Resort & Spa, member of the Relais & Châteaux in Taha’a in French Polynesia, contact letahaa@relaischateaux.com.
