Musician Amy Birdsong and I were recently lost in Brooklyn trying to find our way back to Manhattan when we stumbled upon Bill Cullen's private storage space of found materials. Cullen is a renovation contractor who has been salvaging materials for the past thirty years and shipping them away for storage in this space on Washington Avenue. Many items have not been viewed in years and Cullen is selling everything since he is soon vacating the space. There is an interesting story behind each find.
The makeshift storefront of Bill Cullen's private collection of local salvage materials. The contents of this warehouse has not been viewed in decades. Man in photo is not Bill. |
This Terra Cotta surround was salvaged from the old Elephant House at the Central Park Zoo. |
Various metalwork. |
Old library panels originally from Europe. |
Old library panels. Notice the hole in the panel from a candle burning sconce. |
Porch pediment from the Tenth District Republican Club. |
Antique sink by JL Mott Ironworks, a New York company which made the bathtubs for the White House. |
